1560 Yonge Street (and other locations in the city)
Toronto, Ontario
This is it people...I've found it! The nicest pizza that you can get in Toronto: at Il Fornello's.
In need of a restaurant out of the downtown noise, I ventured up to this Yonge and St. Claire spot for a civilized gourmet Italian experience. Greeted the minute I walked in by mature servers, I was promptly seated by a cozy fireplace and given the specials of the day.
About 30 minutes later, at no fault of the restaurant staff, I ordered. I couldn't make a choice - everything on the menu sounded incredibly appetizing! Not to mention that you'll immediately notice the abundance of Ontario produce and wines described on the menu, which can only mean one thing: fresh. After you've narrowed down your selections, note that you can also have options for whole wheat pasta if you prefer...or multi-grain crust for your pizza, or if you're wheat or gluten intolerant, no fear. Opt for the gluten or yeast-free menu items.
So, let's get on to the most important point...my order. To start, the arugula salad with roasted, wild, fresh, Onario mushrooms in a light onion vinaigrette - the perfect entree. And to follow - that's right folks - the best pizza I've had in this city. A light, crisp crust topped with warm marscapone, warm proscuitto, figs, fresh parmesan shavings and decorative arugula topped with a light honey lemon dressing...it truly was the gourmet pizza from heaven. Accompanied by an Ontario glass of Chardonnay, and there was no where I'd rather have been.
In a city where restaurants compete everyday for the best of pizza's and pasta's, Il Fornello's exceeds all expectations. The quiet atmosphere, professional service and innovative, fresh and healthy menu options are sure to satisfy your upscale Italian cravings.
